The Porretta Film Festival returns this year! The fixed appointment in the city of Alto Reno Terme dedicated to the wonders of cinema and quality films. This year it reaches its 22nd edition and will take place from 2 to 10 December!
This year the Festival cover portrays Roberto Benigni in an evocative black and white by Luciana Mulas, a photographer of great prestige, a master of stage portraits and more.
In fact, the 2023 edition wants to dedicate an unprecedented exhibition to the photographer, whose portraits witnessed the cultural panorama from the 1970s to the beginning of the new millennium.
Particularly attentive to the world of cinema, Luciana Muilas has portrayed the Italian actor, one of the icons of Italian cinema and culture.
Among the most eagerly awaited guests of this edition is the director Roberto Andò, to whom the festival dedicates its retrospective. In addition to the screening of four titles signed by the Sicilian director, including his latest public and critical success La Stranezza, the director will hold a lecture dedicated to students on the relationship between cinema and theatre, an extraordinary opportunity to observe in detail one of the most significant paths of Italian cinema in recent years and to reflect on the importance of cinema and theatre in contemporary culture.
The section Uno sguardo altrove (A Look Elsewhere), dedicated to foreign cinematographies and which from 2018 enriches the festival week with looks at distant worlds and cultures, continues this year.
In order to involve more and more young people and students, the festival organises a Masterclass with a nationally renowned actor who meets and talks with those who will be the spectators of the future.
Last but not least, I classici del cinema, a series of precious appointments to rediscover great personalities from the past who have written the history of cinema.
FCP in few words
The Porretta Terme Film Festival was set up in 2002 with the aim of broadening the cultural offer in the area and continuing the experience of the Porretta Terme Free Film Festival – the antifestival of the 1960s – with the same non-conformist spirit.
Since the first edition, a monographic review dedicated to important names in Italian and international cinema has been organised.
Over the years, new sections such as the Fuori dal giro competition and special events such as Uno sguardo altrove and Cinema & scuola have been added. Since 2019, the National Elio Petri Award has been created, dedicated to the great Roman director active in the 1960s/70s, who won an Oscar in 1971 with the film Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto.
