XXIII EDITION
The 23rd edition of the Porretta Terme Film Festival will take place from 7 to 15 December 2024
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the film The Black God and the Blond Devil, by the great Brazilian master Glauber Rocha, the festival dedicates an ad hoc section to the director, with the screening of some of his most significant films.
One of the most influential directors in the history of Brazilian cinema and a key figure of Cinema Novo, Rocha has a special bond with Porretta. It was precisely 60 years ago, in 1964, that Rocha received the Najade d’Oro at the Porretta Free Cinema Festival, the first important recognition of the director by international critics. A cinema linked to Brazilian myths and legends, characterised by a fervid imagination and a strong political militancy, in line with the films historically loved and promoted by the Festival.
The 23rd edition of the Porretta Film Festival will also see a special guest, an artist who is a symbol of an era and a precious voice of our contemporary times. Francesco Guccini, for the first time ever, will talk about his favourite films, those he is particularly fond of and that have marked his life. The most cultured of Italian singer-songwriters – as Umberto Eco defined him – will delve into the close link between cinema and music, retracing his experiences and his relationship with the seventh art.
