CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR THE REALIZATION OF GRAPHIC WALL ART – STREET ART – RELATED TO THE PORRETTA SOUL FESTIVAL IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ALTO RENO TERME (BOLOGNA – ITALY)

The Sweet Soul Music association, in cooperation with ARTlab – the creative community in Alto Reno Terme – and with the Municipality of Alto Reno Terme, with the support of Regione Emilia-Romagna, announces the first edition of the “Sweet Art” 2020 Prize.

The contest is aimed at the promotion of wall art – street art, soul music history and Porretta Soul Festival as well as the Alto Reno Terme territory, in the Tuscan Emilian Apennine. Within this framework, 5 different works will be selected for their realization in the municipality of Alto Reno Terme. The specific places will be chosen and notified by the organization.


ENROLLMENT & SELECTION

The contest is open to all 18+ artists worldwide. Crucial to the selection will be quality, design, exploration, originality and relevance to the topic of the contest.

Theme/subject of the submitted drafts should be at least one of the following performers of the Porretta Soul Festival: Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Solomon Burke, The Memphis Horns (Wayne Jackson & Andrew Love), Carla Thomas, William Bell, Percy Sledge, Sugar Pie DeSanto, J. Blackfoot, Isaac Hayes, Sam Moore, Otis Clay, Ann Peebles, Irma Thomas, James Carr, Mavis Staples, Eddie Hinton, Dan Penn, Eddie Floyd, Booker T. & The MG’s, James Govan, Clarence Carter, Millie Jackson, Neville Brothers, Swamp Dogg.


TERM & CONDITIONS

Application deadline is at 11.59 pm on October 30th 2020 on the website www.porrettasoulfestival.it

To validate the application, candidates must send an e-mail to graziano.uliani@gmail.com containing as an attachment: the filled out and signed enrolment form, works sketches (max. 2 sketches p.p.), a short biography (20 lines max.) and a portfolio of existing works and their location.

After having sent the above mentioned materials, the applicant automatically runs for the assignment of the special prize, consisting in the hedging of the round trip travel, experiencing artistic life in the Apennine and the necessary supplies to realize the work or works.


ENROLLMENT FEE

Application is free.


SELECTION

Works will be evaluated by a jury taking into account the characteristic of Street Art and the topic development, as well as qualitative criteria, exploration, technical skills and originality.
The jury reserves the right to evaluate all the transmitted materials to select the five winners withing January 2021; the results will be issued on the website www.porrettasoulfestival.it. The selected artists will be contacted via e-mail.


JURY

A jury of 5 members will select the works and will declare the final ranking as well as the 5 winners.
Members of the jury are:

  • Graziano Uliani, president of the Sweet Soul Music association and art director of the Porretta Soul Festival
  • Marco Della Fonte, writer, director and producer of “A Soul Journey”
  • Lucio Mazzi, journalist, music critic and author
  • Alice Palmieri, painter and street artist
  • Andrea Pizzuti, eclectic artist, sculptor, drummer and film director

Should the above mentioned jury members be unavailable, they will be replaced in the process.


AWARDS

Prizes will be distributed in equal shares among the five contest winners. Prize will consist in:

  • Round trip journey
  • Room and board in the area of the Alto Reno Terme (BO)
  • All costs for the realization of the work.

DEADLINES

The application deadline is October 30th 2020 at 11.59 pm (CET).

The 5 winners will be noticed via e-mail within January 31st 2021. Notice will also be issued on www.porrettasoulfestival.it and associated social media.
